Tim Mitchell – Esperance, WA
“Lately, my favourite jig has to be the classic Long John slider.
“This lure is much more versatile than usual knife jig. It can be used for reef species such as cods and snapper simply by slowing the action right down to suit these less athletic species. When it’s sped up the Long John Slider is irresistible to pelagic species such as Samson fish.
“Basically, if there’s predators down there, they will eat it!”
Tobias Hurst – Tamar Valley, Tasmania
“Things have seriously heated up in Tasmania, thanks to an unprecedented mass of supper warm water out there off the coast.
“Big numbers of albacore tuna on the shelf off east coast are keeping us very busy! We’ve been targeting them using the 80 gram Squidwing (in Red Ripper) trolling around 7 knots. The temperature breaks hold the fish so a productive day has us working current seams relentlessly.
” Like most locals, we are a pretty excited about the coming Southern bluefin tuna season. It will be interesting to see if the Squidwings is equally effective on those boys!”
