I have been heading offshore lately, finding the warmer water and sounding for bait and snapper arches. On the Catch front, I’m finding the Squidwings and Freestyle Kabura are working very well on the drift. Jigging them just off the bottom is very effective for flathead with gurnard and other species also taking them without hesitation. A slight pause helps a lot if the bites a bit slow.
Ben Pinniger – Melbourne, Victoria
The snapper bite off Western Port has been elusive. A fishing club comp last Saturday saw 15 boats out for only three fish.
Iโve been taking the kayak to Corner Inlet , paddling out to about 10m and drifting. The fishing’s been pretty good on blue spot flathead and gummy shark.
An orange Kabura left bouncing in the rod holderย saw the best fish, accounting for four flathead between 50-60cm. Close second was the pink L’ll Squidwing, with the slow jig picking up two fish to 50cm as well.
It’s only going to get better as the water warms up. Kingfish should probably start just after Christmas.
Tim Mitchell – Esperance, Western Australia
It’s early days with the Catch Pro Team for me but have already enjoyed a couple of sessions on jigs and have caught some nice fish.
We are lucky to live in such a top all-round fishing spot, like Esperance. There’s a couple of videos to edit, dropping jigs down with rods buckling over as they get smashed.
Looking forward to a Catch training session or two.
